Bamberg is a German city in the state of Bavaria, which is located on seven hills, of which the Cathedral and Michael's hills should be a must-see on the list. Bamberg, due to its numerous tourist attractions, can be a great starting point for a day trip as well as a combined overnight trip. From our bus stop located at the train station- Hauptbahnhof, Ludwigstrasse 6, you'll take a leisurely 15-minute walk to the old part of the city, which is divided into three main parts-Bergstadt (City on the Hills), Inselstadt (City on the Island) and Gärtnerstadt (City of Gardeners). Each area has distinctive architecture and historic buildings, of which there are more than 2,000 throughout the city, so it's worth taking the time to see at least some of them. While already in the old city, it is worth seeing the Old City Hall, which was built in the 15th century on an artificial island in the Regnitz River. Its characteristic elements are the dark yellow wooden facade and numerous frescoes. Admittedly, the building is not open to the public, but inside there is the King Ludwig Porcelain Museum, which displays the wares of famous porcelain factories dating back to the 18th century.
Another major attraction is the Bamberg Cathedral, which is officially known as the Archicathedral of St. Peter and St. George. It is distinguished on the outside by its four 80-meter towers, while the interior is a rather austere design, albeit very atmospheric. While in Bamberg we also recommend taking advantage of the local cafes and restaurants. Served on the day they are very reminiscent of Polish cuisine, and the main dish is pork served with a huge chub and vegetables, which is a sin not to try. After a rest, you can go to other parts of the city using, for example, a very well-developed bus network.
