The largest city of our western neighbors has a unique history. For less than three decades it was divided by a wall symbolizing the borders of post-war Europe. The structure was torn down in 1989, and the fall of the Berlin Wall is still regarded today as one of the key metaphors for the end of the Soviet system. Today the city is one of the largest urban centers on the Old Continent, and a very interesting metropolis - a place that attracts not only tourists, but also students, entrepreneurs, artists or people looking for another chance in life. All this makes modern Berlin a rare constellation of sensations, smells, sounds, sights, monuments and events that are certainly worth seeing with your own eyes. The metropolis of several million people is a great place for a city break or a few days' getaway. Its advantage, in addition to the monuments, about which more below, is good access by bus from Poland. The capital city is located in the eastern part of Germany, and is only 90 km from the border town of Kostrzyn. Many intercontinental planes depart from Berlin, making bus to Berlin a good first stop on a trip to the other side of the world.

Sightseeing the metropolis

The sights in Berlin are plentiful, and how many of them we can visit depends primarily on how much time we have available. Berlin, like any other city, has a list of attractions that all guidebooks take into account. At the top of it is the Brandenburg Gate . Located at Pariser Platz, the structure is 26 meters high and dates back to the 18th century. Its author is C.G. Langhans. In addition to its unusual dimensions, the Brandenburg Gate is famous for its 12 columns and a sculpture of the goddess Nike - a symbol of freedom, peace and victory. The gate is the most representative monument of Berlin, which translates into crowds of people posing for a photo here. Near the Brandenburg Gate is a giant city park - Tiergarten (inside you will find, among other things, a zoo). Also in this area is the Monument to the Murdered Jews of Europe. The eloquent design by P. Eisenman consists of 2711 geometric stone blocks, forming a poignant, thought-provoking labyrinth. Across the square from the Brandenburg Gate is the Reichstag, the seat of the German parliament. Its neo-Renaissance exterior forms a harmonious composition with glass elements, making the Reichstag one of the capital's gems. Heading to Alexanderplatz, it is impossible to miss the 19th century Berlin Cathedral with its monumental 85-meter dome. With the temple as a backdrop, it's easy to spot the TV tower - the tallest building in the city (365 meters), offering a capital panorama of the surrounding area.

Other top Berlin attractions include: Museum Island (listed by UNESCO since 1999), the East Side Gallery, Potsdamer Platz, Checkpoint Charlie, the Urania Clock, Neptune's Fountain, the Gothic St. Mary's Church and the adjacent Red City Hall.

Berlin offers public transportation at a high level. You can move freely around the city by subway, which makes sightseeing much easier. This is further proof that the best way to get to this city is by long-distance bus to Berlin, and you can successfully use public transportation on the spot.
