Biłgoraj is the second largest city in the southern part of the Lublin Province located in the vicinity of the Roztoczanski National Park. The municipality is an ideal place for those craving a break from the hustle and bustle of the city. Its location in the Sandomierz Basin, along with numerous hiking and biking trails, is perfect for those looking for outdoor activities.
The town was famous for its sieve production, which is why you can find the Sitar Homestead - an open-air museum that consists of several wooden buildings where you can learn how sieves were once made and a statue of a sieve maker in the center of town commemorating the town's history.
Biłgoraj is also a Borderland Town, where you can find buildings that perfectly reflect the architecture and culture of Poland at the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries. Also worth seeing is the late Baroque Church of the Holy Trinity and the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary, or the post-Franciscan Church of St. Mary Magdalene, erected on the site of an earlier church from 1644 founded by Jan Zamojski.
In local restaurants you should try regional cuisine, the most important of which is Pieróg Biłgorajski, which resembles a pate in form and is made of buckwheat groats, cottage cheese and pork fat.
