Brzesko - a land flowing with golden liquor.
The heyday of the city dates back to the second half of the 19th century, when Jan Albina Goetze, a German, arrived in Brzesko. He was the founder of Okocim Brewery, which soon became the largest producer of the golden drink in Poland. The Goetze family had a great impact on the development of the town, and took good care of its employees and residents. Today, the Okocim brewery is part of the Carlsberg Poland concern.
The main landmark of the city is, of course, the Market Square, which is worth a look when visiting Brzesko. The most noteworthy is the brick town hall from the early 20th century, which along with the Gothic church of St. James, is one of the most valuable monuments in the city. Another is the statue of St. Florian erected in 1731, founded by the townsfolk to protect the town from subsequent fires. If you want to relax, you can do it in a cafe or on one of the wooden benches placed around the main square.
From the bus stop on Uczestników Ruchu Oporu, where our buses stop, in five minutes you will reach the Regional Museum, which is located just off the Market Square, in one of the historic houses. The walls of the living room of the apartment at Kościuszki street are decorated with paintings by Zygmunt Rozwadowski, Erazm Fabijański and Feliks Hanusz, and the interior of the room is decorated with nineteenth-century furniture. The bedroom is full of paintings from the brush of Aleksander Augustynowicz, Jadwiga Skalecka and Ludwik Stasiak, there are also exhibits in the form of bed, armchair in Louisian style or a relief of Józef Piłsudski. In the third room there is an exhibition of photographs of old Brzesko, while the last room is devoted to distinguished figures, among others, the Cracovian actor Jerzy Peteres or the inventor of the compass, Colonel Jan Bezard.
