Bydgoszcz ranks among the ten most populous cities in Poland and is the largest city in the Kuyavian-Pomeranian province. As befits a metropolis, it is also an important cultural, scientific and academic center, and above all a place where no tourist will be bored. Bydgoszcz is located on the Brda River, and the eastern border of the city is marked by the Vistula River.
The city seems to be an ideal destination for a weekend getaway or even a day's sightseeing. Regardless of how much time you spend there, it's a good idea to start your visit with a visit to the Bydgoszcz Information Center (2 Batory St.), where you can get the most necessary sightseeing tips, find accommodation or ask for recommendations on dining out. The information center is located at the Old Market Square, the city's most representative square, through which the 18th meridian of eastern longitude passes. The market was laid out in the 14th century by Casimir III the Great himself. Two buildings dominate the market's horizon. The first is the late Gothic cathedral (certainly worth going inside to learn about its monuments) and the city hall. Very popular among visitors is the Mill Island. It is a capital recreational and tourist area, dominated by the Rothera Mills - formerly an industrial facility, now a cultural institution. There is an observation deck on the building, from where you can admire the city skyline. Another well-known vantage point is the historic Pressure Tower in H. Park. Dąbrowskiego.
One of the most famous museum facilities in Bydgoszcz is the Museum of Soap and the History of Dirt. The very name of the facility sounds intriguing! Soapmaking workshops and the opportunity to create your own soap are very popular among visitors. At this point it is worth mentioning the Bydgoszcz Tourist Card - thanks to it, admission to many facilities, including the Museum of Soap and the History of Dirt, is free.
On the list of must-see points is also the Old Town Bridge, connecting the downtown with the Old Town. From there, it's not far to the water streetcar stop. A course on the Brda is one of the best ideas for alternative transportation of Bydgoszcz. The boats run during the summer season and give you the opportunity to admire the most historic corners of the city from a water perspective. Those who prefer strolling on dry land should definitely take a walk on the promenade of Bydgoszcz Venice, walk the streets of the downtown area or take advantage of the offer of one of the local city parks, such as Kazimierz Wielki Park.
The above-mentioned attractions are only a part of the proposals that the largest city in Kujawy has to offer tourists.
