Travel with us to Ghent (Gent)! Probably for many of us the first association about cities in Belgium is Brussels. The capital of Belgium, it is a very recognizable city also because of its political role.

Not many people know, however, that Ghent (Gent) is a city with more than 80,000 inhabitants, more than 260,000 living in this wonderful city. (January 2020 data). It is second only to Antwerp, the largest city in Belgium. It is estimated that between the 12th and 15th centuries Ghent was the largest city, just after Paris.

Ghent is located in the northwestern part of Belgium and has access all the way to the North Sea via the Leie River.  Ghent is the capital of the province of East Flanders. It is the largest university center in Belgium, at the university alone study about 28 thousand people. Ghent is a beautiful city, very picturesque, we encourage you to visit it by our bus. The biggest attraction is the Cathedral of St. Bavo from the XIII-XIV centuries (place of baptism of the Spanish king Charles V Habsburg). You can walk to the cathedral from our bus stop at Daamport Station. It takes about 15 minutes to walk to the aforementioned cathedral, wonderful right?

Inside you will find the magnificent Ghent Altarpiece, known as the Adoration of the Mystical Lamb by the brothers Hubert and Jan van Eyck. From there, it's just a few steps to the observation tower- called the Belffroi Tower, from where we can enjoy a view of the entire city. Further on we can go on foot to St. Nicholas Church, characterized by a monumental Gothic-Romanesque construction. There is much to admire, Ghent is considered  a  clean city, crisscrossed by water canals, restored townhouses add charm to the strollers. For tired walkers we recommend Waterzoi, and so Ghent's fish soup, Stoverij- beer stew sipped with one of the local beers.
