Situated on the Warta River Gorzów Wielkopolski, called the green city, it is the capital of Lubuskie province. Until 1945, Gorzow belonged to German Brandenburg, and since the end of World War II it has been within the borders of Poland.
Start visiting the city with a walk along the Warta River Boulevard, which stretches along the right bank of the Warta River. It divides the city center into eastern and western parts. The eastern part of the boulevard features a children's playground, an aviary with exotic birds, a fountain and numerous pubs and restaurants. The two parts of the boulevard are connected by a walkway with a lower terrace under the Old Town Bridge.
In the center of the city is the Spring of Nations Park, also called the Rose Park by Gorzowians. Established in 1913, it has an area of 4.7 hectares. During the interwar period and shortly after the war, it housed a zoo.
On the hills surrounding the old city is the Siemiradzki Park with an area of 9.6 hectares. It houses an amphitheater. Built in 1975-1980, it was extensively rebuilt in 2010-2011, and is now with a new roof, facilities for artists and a new auditorium with 4,604 seats. The park was created in the early 20th century through the activities of the City Beautification Society. Its attraction is the viewing platform and the so-called "Stairway to Nowhere," a remnant of a planned development - the construction of a palm house at the top in the park. Both the platform and the stairs offer a panoramic view of the city.
Gorzów Wielkopolski also boasts beautiful monuments such as the Cathedral of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary. This is the oldest church in the city, built in the late 13th century. It is a Gothic building of burnt brick.
The church was established as a cathedral in December 1945. It was visited by Pope John Paul II in 1997. The most valuable piece of equipment in the cathedral is the main altar in about 1600.
The defensive walls - the second oldest monument next to the cathedral. The earliest mention of being able to effectively enclose the city with a wall(1) dates back to 1321. Of the more than 4,400-meter-long walls, only a 130-meter-long section of them (between Havelanskaya and Monument Streets) has survived to this day. Four towers have survived. Along the northern side of the walls there is a square - a trace of the buried moat.
The Jan Dekert Lubuskie Museum. It is the oldest museum in Lubuskie province. It is located in Schroeder's Villa on Warszawska Street. The museum includes a villa and park complex from the early 20th century on Warszawska Street, a Granary from the second half of the 18th century on Fabryczna Street, a Mill Homestead in Bogdaniec and Santocki Castle in Santok.
The Philharmonic Orchestra is certainly an attraction of Gorzów, although no longer a historical one - its building is located in the center, on Nine Muses Street. There is an open seating courtyard, a checkroom, a buffet for the audience and an upper and lower foyer. The Philharmonic has six halls: a main concert hall with 598 seats, a chamber hall (for 150 people) and four rehearsal rooms. Construction began in 2009, and the first concert was held in May 2011
Gorzow is also an important city on the sports map of Poland. Speedway and basketball in particular have the most loyal fans here.
The bus stop is located at the bus station - at 10 Dworcowa Street. We invite you to board buses!
