Nowadays, the jail is open to the public and the square itself is a very popular place among students, where they meet to drink beer, sing, dance and have fun together. In addition to the picturesque architecture, the city has over 300 marble plaques commemorating Göttingen's most prominent scholars located in various places around the city. The city also offers plenty of restaurants and pubs, as well as several museums and a botanical garden.
