Ilawa is a city located in Western Masuria on the great Lake Jeziorak. Two rivers flow through it - Iławaka and Tynwałd.
.What is worth seeing in the city and its surroundings? Can you find any more attractions outside the summer season? Ilawa delights and not only during the peak sailing season.
The lake ranks first in length and sixth in size in Poland. It measures about 28 kilometers, but is quite shallow - its average depth is 4 meters, and in the deepest places it reaches a maximum of 13 meters. In addition, the reservoir is connected by waterway with many other Masurian lakes and the Elblag Canal. On Jeziorak you can count 16 islands, with the largest counting more than 80 hectares and located in Ilawa, the Great Zulawa (otherwise known as the Great Spur). The southernmost part of Lake Jeziorak is the so-called Little Lake, located entirely within the city. It is surrounded by the picturesque John Paul II Boulevard, with several eateries, a marina and the city's amphitheater.
The city is also home to a number of restaurants.
While in Ilawa, it is worth taking a cruise on this huge lake. The range of cruises on offer is extensive, from short cruises of about an hour circling the island of Great Zulawy to all-day water excursions. From May to October, the Ilavia water streetcar cruises on the Lake. It can be found at the amphitheater, near Galeria Jeziorak.
.There are two guarded bathing beaches in the city - Dzika and Prawdziwka beaches. One of the most modern harbor and sailing eco-marina in Warmia and Mazury is also located here.
This is the oldest monument in the city. It dates back to the beginning of the 14th century. It was built in the Gothic style on the site of an earlier chapel, and a Renaissance bell tower was added in 1550. The interior hides a richly decorated wooden main altar or a statue of Our Lady of Fatima. The basement of the church is also a valuable monument. Next to the temple is an over 150-year-old oak tree - one of the oldest trees in Ilawa.
.This neo-Baroque building was constructed in the early 20th century. The City Hall suffered significantly during World War II, but was quickly rebuilt. During the communist era it even served as the city market. In front of the city hall building, you can see an open-air exhibition on the history of the city. Many cultural events are held here.
This name is used to describe a place on the Ilawka River with wooden hangars for boats that somewhat resemble houses on the water - hence the association with Venice. The area has a path for pedestrians and cyclists, as well as numerous piers, benches and deck chairs.
>During the summer season and also the sailing season, many interesting events are held in the city. In July, Days of Ilawa are held, in August shanties and jazz lead the way, which can be heard here at the "Zlota Tarka" International Traditional Jazz Festival. In addition, regattas, canoeing competitions, sports and recreational games or various concerts and festivals are often organized.
