Jastrowie is a town located in the Greater Poland province. It used to be a royal village, belonging to the starosty of Ujsk; by the end of the 16th century it lay in the Poznañ district of the Poznañ province. From 1975 to 1998, the town administratively belonged to the Pilsko province. Jastrowie is located on the edge of the Gwda River valley on the Oska River in the vicinity of the hills known as the Jastrowskie Hills.
One of Jastrowie's most important monuments is the Church of St. Michael the Archangel. It is a neo-Baroque building built in 1913 and consecrated in 1915. It has a tower. The church's furnishings include a historic Baroque high altar, made in 1753, wooden statues of St. John Nepomucen and St. Casimir from the 18th century and a stone stoup from 1800.
Another monument is the Church of the Blessed Virgin Mary Queen of Poland in Jastrow. It is an eclectic (with features of Neo-Gothic and Neo-Romanesque) building built in 1880-1882, consecrated on February 23, 1947, and consecrated on May 5, 2002 by Bishop Marian Gołębiewski. Erected as an Evangelical church, it has been used by Catholics since 1947. Until recently, the church had numerous metalwork elements removed after renovation work was carried out in 2014/2015, at which time the color scheme of the church interior was also changed and a niche was carved on the right side in which the statue of Our Lady of Fatima is located. A new main altar was erected in the church, modeled on the altar that was there until the 1980s.
Jastrów is also famous for its beautiful lakes and amazing nature reserves. One of them is the Devil's Dragon Nature Reserve. It was established in 1961 to protect the old-growth beech and mixed forest on the steep slopes of the gorge and the numerous springs with their characteristic flora of mosses and liverworts. The purpose of protection is now stated as "preservation for scientific and didactic reasons of a complex of forest, reed and spring ecosystems, developed on the slopes of moraine hills and on the adjacent shore of Lake Kripsko Male." The reserve encompasses a deep ravine with a microclimate that allows the development of vegetation characteristic of mountainous areas, not found in northern Poland. On the steep slopes there are numerous springs, which give rise to the Rurzyca River and the lakes through which it flows.
In the calendar of events, permanent items include the International Folklore Festival Bukowinski Encounters, Days of Jastrow organized annually, and the District Review of Children's Artistic Groups. The first event is held in June, the second in May and the third in autumn.
