Jelenia Góra is a town located in the northern part of the Jeleniogórska Valley. The town is surrounded by the Izerskie Mountains and Foothills to the west, the Kaczawskie Mountains to the north, the Rudawy Janowickie to the east, and the Karkonosze to the south. The city center is located about 1 km east of the confluence of the Bóbr and Kamienna Rivers.
One of the monuments inscribed on the list of the National Heritage Institute is the Basilica of St. Erasmus and St. Pancras. It is an oriented, Gothic, three-nave, four-bay basilica first mentioned in 1303 after its fire, rebuilt in the 14th century, rebuilt in the 15th and 16th centuries. The oldest and most important temple in the city. It is a typical example of a Gothic church with ogival door and window frames, cross-ribbed vault and buttresses.
A place worth visiting is also Chojnik Castle, or rather its ruins. It is located near Jelenia Gora-Sobieszow, on the top of Chojnik mountain in Karkonosze. The mountain rises to a height of 627 meters above sea level, and on its south-eastern side there is a 150-meter cliff descending to the so-called Hell Valley. The stronghold is located in the strict protection area, which is part of the Karkonosze National Park. Chojnik Castle consists of a lower castle surrounded by fortifications. A cylindrical tower rises on the northern side and a shell tower in the northeastern corner. Along the curtain walls there are residential and farm buildings. A gate connects it with the middle castle. In its center there is a pillory 3.9 m high. Remains of the crew's living quarters, the former kitchen, the water cistern and the so-called courtroom can be seen. Another gate connects the middle castle with the upper castle. On it one can see the remains of the late Gothic castle chapel, the palace and the entrance to the tower. You can get there by hiking trails, the red one to Sobieszow through Glazowisko, the black one to Sobieszow and to Podgórzyn Górny and the yellow one through Żelazny Mostek to Podgórzyn Dolny.
Another place worth visiting is the Karkonosze National Park. National Park with an area of 5951.42 hectares in the Lower Silesian province near the state border with the Czech Republic, created on January 16, 1959. The Park buffer zone area is 13,093 ha. There is an admission fee to KPN. The Park has 112 km of hiking trails, there are also ski trails, including 17 km of ski slopes. Some of the hiking trails are open to cyclists. Two cable cars ("Szrenica" and "Kopa") lead to the top parts, while in winter there are 10 ski lifts for skiers.
