Kalisz is the second largest city in Greater Poland and the oldest city in Poland - Kalisz. It is also an important cultural center on the map of Europe.

The development of the city was influenced by its location on the "Amber Route" connecting the Roman Empire and the Baltic coast. Walking around the old town you will come across many tourist attractions that are worth visiting. One of them is the oldest bridge in Kalisz called the Stone Bridge, which dates back to 1825. Another important monument is the Kalisz Cathedral whose origins date back to the thirteenth century, which was founded by Prince Boleslaw the Pious, for centuries the church witnessed historic events, including the Swedish invasion when the building was destroyed. The most valuable work in the cathedral was a painting by Rubens himself "The Deposition of Christ from the Cross". - which was bought by Piotr Żeromski and stolen in 1973 by setting the whole altar on fire. The stained glass windows in the cathedral were made by Włodzimierz Tetmajer, a well-known Cracow artist who made stained glass windows for many Cracow churches. In 1997 the cathedral was visited by John Paul II. We also recommend visiting the Tower of Dorothy with defensive walls, the only part of medieval Kalisz  which remained undestroyed. While in Kalisz it is also worth going to see a play in the Wojciech Bogusławski Drama Theatre in Kalisz. It is the third oldest theater in Poland, founded in 1801 by Wojciech Boguslawski, associated with the National Theatre in Warsaw. For lovers of classical music, a visit to the Kalisz Philharmonic, which is the organizer of, among others, the International Percussion Music Festival and the Summer Music Festival of Southern Wielkopolska, will remain unforgettable.
