Kamenské- a city in Ukraine, Dnipropetrovsk Oblast. This large city lying on the Dnieper River has a population of about 230,000.
It is said that history comes full circle. The name of the city- Kamenské is the first name, mentions come as early as 1750. City rights were granted in 1926, mentioned Kamienskie was only for 10 years. Already in 1936 the name was changed to Dneprodzerzhinsk, restored the original name only in 2016.
The metallurgical industry developed very dynamically here during the USSR period, unfortunately it had a very negative impact on the pollution of the city, as Kamensk was considered one of the most polluted.#High concentrations of harmful agents such as nitrogen dioxide, benzene and nitrate persisted until the plants were closed down after the collapse of the USSR.
When you arrive to the city we strongly recommend two attractions. The first is the Museum of the History of the City of Kamenski. Interesting and characteristic facade attracts attention, inside there is a rich permanent museum exhibition. The place is highly recommended among visitors.
Another recommended attraction is St. Nicholas Cathedral. Built in 1894, donations for the construction of the temple came from executives and workers of the local metallurgical plant. The Cathedral was later expanded, among others two side aisles were added, decorated with colonnades and domes. The Cathedral was closed in 1929, later the Museum of the Revolution took place here. As a temple it functioned from World War II until 1960, when the museum was created here again. Finally, the temple was returned to the Russian Orthodox Church in 1988.
An interesting fact is that Leonid Brezhnev- General Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party from 1964-1982-was born in Kamensk. Noteworthy is the fact that Leonid Brezhnev is a highly rated leader of Russia. According to Russians, he is the best leader of Russia in the 20th century, many believe that the Brezhnev era was the best from the point of view of the people of Russia.
