The town's history is closely connected with the history of Kozle. The oldest mention of the town dates back to 1108, when the knights of Bolesław Krzywousty defended the castle against the attacks of the Moravians. The town is also associated with the legend of the three brothers Goats, who resembled these animals in appearance and engaged in looting.
