Krosno is a charming city located in the Podkarpackie province, with a population of less than 50,000. The city is of great regional importance - it is home to many institutions important to the entire Subcarpathian region. Historically, Krosno belongs to the land of Sanok, and was granted city location in the middle of the 14th century. This centuries-old legacy is visible in many places here, which is best seen in person during a vacation or weekend getaway to Krosno.
It is best to start visiting Krosno from the market square. First of all, it is the city's showcase, and secondly, it houses a tourist information point where you can get the necessary information on local tourist attractions and accommodation and dining facilities. While strolling through the market, the attention is drawn to the historic arcaded houses. Their interiors house pubs, cafes and stores. One of the prettiest buildings of this type is the alderman's tenement from the 15th century, which stands out with its impressive Renaissance portal. Another tenement worth noting is the PodCieniami Cellar, located at No. 5. In its basement are concert and exhibition rooms that are part of the Craft Museum. In the central part of the market is a former well, on which a model of the city has been erected. During the summer season, open-air events are held in the market square.
While in Krosno, it is worth visiting two monuments - the monument to the distinguished Scotsman Portius and the monument to Ignacy Lukasiewicz, the creator of the 1853 prototype of the kerosene lamp.
The city has a lot to offer to lovers of museum collections. The former bishop's palace houses the Podkarpackie Museum, which has the largest collection of kerosene lamps in the Old Continent. In addition, it is worth noting the Craft Museum in the building of the former headquarters of the clock factory, the modern exposition of the Glass Heritage Center, the Ecocenter of the Krosno Land and the Private Museum of Podkarpackie Battlefields.
Tourist attractions in Krosno also have a sacred dimension. Those seeking a moment of reverie can visit the Jewish cemetery and the Old Cemetery. In addition to the necropolis, key sacred sites in Krosno include the Holy Trinity Parish Church, the Franciscan Church (which is the oldest active church) with its Baroque Auschwitz Chapel, and the Capuchin Church.
A major tourist asset of Krosno is transportation, designed with tourists and residents in mind. Those staying in Krosno can use public transportation, although it is worth noting that the city's main attractions are located in close proximity and can be visited on foot. So how to get to Krosno itself? Non-motorized people can get here by choosing Krosno by bus or train.
