Visit by Sindbad bus Maidstone
The capital of the county of Kent, which has been called the gardens or orchard of England. It is now a town of over 150,000 inhabitants, dating back to the Middle Ages, when it was a village owned by the Archbishop of Canterbury. The city took advantage of its location on the River Medway and gained commercial importance, which led to its rapid growth. Thanks to the paper industry and brewing, Maidstone prospered, and even the Grammar School was established here in 1594 and brought many educated people to the town thanks to it. In the 1970s, industry began to decline and the town dimmed a bit. Today's city is an uncluttered downtown with many off-limits areas, full of cafes, restaurants and stores. Getting off at our stop located at Maidstone Services - Jct 8 M20, the city center is best reached by car or cab. The city is certainly a great place to relax outdoors as you will find plenty of green oases and parks with Mote Park at the forefront. This is a wonderful place for a picnic or a sailboat ride on the local lake. The River Medway is a tributary of the River Thames and offers boat trips but also the opportunity to go kayaking. There is also a vehicle museum in town which is worth a visit. You certainly can not get bored here.
