A district city of Ukraine located on the Latoritsa River in the Transcarpathian Lowlands. It is the seat of Catholic bishops of the Greek and Latin rites, as well as the Muscovite-Uzhorodian Orthodox eparchy of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church of the Moscow Patriarchate. The city is an important transportation hub, with the Ukrainian national road M06 and the railroad line Chop - Stryi running through it. It is also a center of food and wood processing industries. The biggest monument of the town is Palanka Castle, which houses a historical and ethnographic museum. Visiting Mukachevo it is also worth seeing the Gothic St. Martin's Chapel from the 14th century, the Rakoczy Palace built in 1667, the Kovner Palace from the 19th century and the Catholic St. Martin's Cathedral.
