Nicea tthe capital of the Côte d'Azur. Situated picturesquely, the city is surrounded by steep hills on one side and the azure waters of the Mediterranean Sea on the other. The mild climate makes it worth a vacation here at any time of the year.
Nicea is a cosmopolitan city. About 350,000 people from all over the world live here, creating a cultural mix that can be seen at every turn.
While vacationing in Nice, be sure to take a stroll along the Promenade des Anglais, which stretches along the seven-kilometer-long beach, as well as get lost among the narrow and winding streets of the Old Town.
There is something for everyone in Nice. Beaches, a long promenade, the historic old town, Roman ruins, a mass of restaurants and pubs, museums and galleries - but also hills and walking trails - the choice of attractions really is wide. A trip to neighboring Cannes and the Principality of Monaco is also worthwhile.
The Old Town of Nice
The Old Town of Nice is narrow streets, colorful townhouses and the smell of food. You don't need a special plan to explore it. Just walk ahead and get lost in the maze of passages and streets. This way you will discover many interesting pubs, restaurants and stores with Provençal and French products. In the Old Town there is the largest Provençal market in the region - Cours Saleya. It is open all week, but on Mondays, antique dealers from the area display their products here. At the market you can buy flowers, souvenirs and fresh food products, including the famous pancake made of chickpea flour - Socca.
Castle Hill
The best vantage point in Nice is provided by Castle Hill. The castle hasn't been there since the 18th century, but the extensive city park with an artificial waterfall are quite an attraction. Being on Castle Hill, you can't miss its other side. A magnificent view of the Old Port, Elton John's house and the Mont Boron hill awaits you there.
Promenade des Anglais in Nice
The 7 km long seaside promenade is perhaps the city's most important attraction. The Promenade des Anglais runs along the city's beach, and as you walk along you can admire the historic hotels built in the 19th century for the English aristocracy.
Plac Massena and Promenade Paillon
Plac Massena is the city's main square. Interestingly, there used to be a bridge connecting the Old Town and the New Town in its place. The river still flows under the square, but it has been built over. This created a long and green Promenade Paillon with numerous fountains. Massena Square hosts the Grand Carnival of Nice every year - an event that attracts thousands of tourists from all over the world, but is little known in Poland.
Park Phoenix is also worth a look, especially when traveling with children. It's a small zoo and a huge greenhouse with a tropical garden and flamingos.
Mont Boron Hill
Mont Boron Hill is a sprawling city park, perfect for a picnic in the shade of the trees, and another place where tourists don't go. It is where Sir Elton John has his summer residence. From the hill you can enjoy beautiful views of the whole area, especially the town of Villefranche-sur-Mer, which is on its other side.
Nice beach
The city's beach, which is several kilometers long, is also a great asset. However, you should know that the beach in Nice is rocky! Therefore, it is advisable to bring special shoes for beachcombing. You can buy them in many places near the beach.
Nice is also a paradise for art lovers. There are more than a dozen museums here, and admission to most of them is possible with the same ticket.
