The Holy Trinity Column in Olomouc

One of the most important and recognizable monuments in the Czech Republic, and a symbol of the city. Erected between 1716 and 1754, the column was designed by architect Václav Render and is an excellent example of Baroque sculptural art. Its construction was intended to commemorate the end of the plague epidemic that hit Olomouc in the 18th century.

The column is 35 meters high and consists of a tiered base and a slender tower topped by a statue of the Holy Trinity. Sculptures depicting figures of saints and angels surround the column, giving it an extremely rich and decorative appearance. The entire structure is made of local sandstone, which emphasizes harmony with the surroundings.
