Ostróda lies in the Warmian-Masurian province, west of Olsztyn. It is only 40 km from the regional capital. Other important towns in its vicinity are: Olsztynek, Lubawa, Morąg, Pasłęk and Iława. As befits a town in this part of Poland, Ostroda boasts access to a lake, or even several bodies of water. The most important of these is Lake Drwęckie, whose shores are adjacent to the city center. Other important bodies of water, which constitute the modern shape of Ostróda, are: Lake Pauzeńskie and Lake Morliny.
It is the lakes that are counted among Ostróda's greatest attractions. The first fiddle is played here by the aforementioned Drwęckie Lake with its thoughtfully developed waterfront, whose showpiece is a wooden pier with a stylish gazebo. The waterfront of Lake Drweckie serves as a flagship promenade and at the same time one of Ostroda's main tourist attractions. Seasonal outdoor events are also held here, and the nearby cafes offer the best coffee and sweet food. There is also a multimedia fountain with a fisherman's statue, a 2,500-seat amphitheater and something for the truly adventurous - a water-ski lift, where you can learn wakeboarding. Speaking of lakes, there is also no shortage of places for swimming and lazing - the best areas for sunbathing can be found on Lake Drwęckie (where you can rent water equipment and venture into the basin) and Lake Sajmino.
What other attractions does Ostróda have to offer its visitors? Certainly it is a cruise on the Elblag Canal. The canal is a unique waterway, which in 2007 made it to the list of the 7 Wonders of Poland, as ranked by Rzeczpospolita.
The one who thinks that in Ostroda all tourist attractions are related to water is mistaken. With a dry foot, we can visit Ostroda Castle, where museum rooms and a gallery await tourists. Emperor Bonaparte himself resided in the Castle during one of his campaigns. The New Town, with its buildings stylized as historic buildings, is also interesting. There are charming townhouses, catering facilities and service points. For those thirsty for contact with nature, Collis Park awaits, and for tourists with no fear of heights - a vantage point on the tower of the Evangelical Church.
The most fashionable establishments in the city, frequented by tourists, are the hallmark of Ostróda. So where is it worth booking a table? Among the city's best-rated eateries are restaurants: Suzume Sushi, Lalo, Tawerna, Trattoria La Riva, Bistro Full of Vitamins, Promenada Street Food, Kresowa restaurant, bistro U Margaret, and Modne Bistro Ostroda. You can also eat well in pubs serving burgers, such as Burger Ostroda, Plant and Beef.
Ostroda is part of the Western Masuria region, which is famous for its beautiful natural circumstances and numerous bodies of water. The abundance of flora and fauna together with clean air make the region a paradise for anglers, sailors and lovers of spending time in nature. Ostroda, not without reason, is considered a great starting point. Exploring local attractions is also possible thanks to PKS Ostroda and other local carriers. We should add that Ostroda can also be easily reached by intercity bus Sindbad. The stops of most conductors are located close to the railway station.
