This city has a population of 23,000 and is located in the northeastern part of the Mazovian province. It is separated from Warsaw by a distance of about 100 kilometers. An analogous distance has to be covered to get to Bialystok. Other major cities in this region of Poland include Ostroleka, Lomza and Wyszków. A glance at the map is enough to conclude that Ostrów Mazowiecka has a convenient location when it comes to vehicular roads - the town is located at the intersection of the S-8 route and the S-61 route. The DK60 and DK50 also meet in Ostrów Mazowiecka, which means that you can quickly and conveniently get from here to virtually any part of the country. Eagerly taking advantage of these advantages are modern intercity coaches Sindbad and other carriers, for which the PKS Ostrów Mazowiecka station is the base.
.Ostrów was granted city rights at the end of the Middle Ages, in 1434.
Before that, there was a rental village, and even earlier a settlement. In general, the settlement in this area is dated rather late, and this is due, for example, to the lack of a river, which could be a natural communication route with other urban centers.
One of the biggest attractions is the recently opened Pilecki House Museum, dedicated to the family of Maria and Rotmistrz Witold Pilecki. Inside you will find both exhibits about the Pilecki family and the heroic history of the "volunteer to Auschwitz," but also an exposition telling the history of the city and the region (Ostrow Land and Northeastern Mazovia). The second important museum facility is the Jatki Gallery. This neo-Gothic building from 1903 (and rebuilt in 2018) has two floors. The lower one houses an art gallery, while the rooms on the upper floor are used for events and workshops organized by the local MDK. Cultural and social initiatives are also happening in the revitalized Old Power Plant building. An important point on the cultural map of Ostrow is the Ostrovia Studio Cinema.
.Other monuments in Ostrow Mazowiecka include the neo-Gothic Church of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary, the neo-Baroque town hall from 1927, the building of the Cooperative Bank and the building of the M. Copernicus High School. Also popular with tourists and local residents are the park around the city pond, as well as the monuments to Princess Anna Mazowiecka and the monument to the memory of the Ostrów Land's Wyklętych Soldiers.
Fans of good tastes and full stomachs should have no reason to worry. There are several good restaurants in Ostrow. The most frequently recommended dining outlets are Browar Podborze Restaurant and Beer Baths, Black Burger Restaurant, Akropolis Tavern, Sushi Takeaway Ostrów Mazowiecka, Tandem Restaurant and Szymazo Restaurant. The gastronomic offer is supplemented by fast food outlets, primarily pizzerias and kebab bars.
.Ostrów Mazowiecka is well connected with other towns and cities. Local connections are provided by carriers that stop at the local PKS Ostrów Mazowiecka bus station.
