Piła is a city belonging to the Greater Poland Voivodeship, located on the border of the Wałeckie Lakeland and the Krajeńskie Lakeland, on the Gwda River. It is over 100 km away from the capital of the province - Poznan. Closer to the capital of the neighboring administrative district - Bydgoszcz. Other important urban centers within Pila are: Złotów, Chodzież, Wałcz and Jastrowie. Statistics state that Pila, which is the seat of Pila County, is inhabited by over 70,000 people. Pila was granted town rights in the first half of the 15th century. The town suffered heavy losses during World War II. It is enough to say that 90% of the buildings in the city centre had to be rebuilt.
In Pila you can find many interesting monuments connected with Stanislaw Staszic. It is worth seeing the house where Staszic was born (there is a commemorative plaque on the wall of the building), his monument and the Stanisław Staszic Town Park with an iron gazebo from 1904. The Stanisław Staszic Museum and the Stanisław Staszic Regional Museum are also dedicated to this figure. There is also the Pilgrim Military Museum in the city. Aside from the buildings dedicated to Staszic's memory, the neo-Baroque Holy Family Church and St. Anthony's Church are also worth a visit.
What other tourist attractions are there in Pila? People who are not fond of going to museums may be interested in Street Art. Piła appreciates street art, as evidenced by the numerous murals scattered in various parts of the city. It is one of those places in our country, next to Katowice, Lodz or Gdynia, where local authorities boast of mural artworks prepared by local artists.
Pila can also offer quite a lot to tourists who appreciate contact with nature. Apart from the aforementioned Staszic Park, there is also the charmingly situated Park na Wyspie, surrounded by the waters of the Gwda River. Near the city there are many natural attractions, such as the crystal clear Plot Lake, Lake Piaszczyste, Kosice Reservoir, the Notec River Valley and the Kuźnik Landscape Reserve. Nature lovers will surely appreciate the fact that more than a half of the city is covered by green areas, and Pila is surrounded on all sides by forest complexes and lakes. Such a location gives unlimited possibilities to practice hiking, water sports and cycling.
Anybody who has ever had a chance to visit a restaurant in Pila knows that it is possible to eat well here. Among the most recommended restaurants in the city are, among others, Pierogarnia Helena, Marchew restaurant, Pizzeria Ancora, Tavern Toscana, Origami sushi bar, Duck on the Water restaurant and Molino restaurant. The Arche hotel, Gromada hotel, Forma hotel, Gringo hotel and Stara Wozownia hostel open their doors to tourists. Accommodation can also be found in local agrotourism facilities and in private accommodation.
Routing to Pila is made easier by the region's well-developed road network and intercity transport. The Piła bus station can be considered the city's transfer center. Buses connecting Piła with other regions and countries in Europe depart from here, and the Piła PKS company provides passenger transport to neighbouring towns.
