Poltava is a city of nearly 300,000 people located in the central-eastern part of Ukraine. Due to its favorable geographic location, the city has developed strongly over the years, and is now crossed by major transportation routes connecting Poltava with major Ukrainian cities such as Kiev and Kharkiv. One of the biggest attractions of the city is the Poltava Museum of Local Knowledge named after Vasyl Krychevsky. It was founded on the initiative of an outstanding scientist, Professor Dokuchaev in 1891. In its resources it has a unique and very rich collection of antiques and exhibits of folk art from both the Poltava region and many other parts of the world such as Egypt, Japan, India and Indonesia. The real pearl of the museum are also Cossack antiquities, in which the history of the struggle for freedom and independence of the Cossack people is written. In total, the resources of the entire facility count about 300 thousand exhibits. Being in Poltava is also worth seeing the Cathedral of the Elevation of the Holy Cross. It was built in the Baroque style in the 18th century with a bell tower that stands 47 meters high. It is also worth visiting the outskirts of Poltava, where there is a housing estate that dates back as far as the 17th century. The attraction is a museum, where you can admire the work of the famous artist Nikolai Gogol. On the territory of the current city settlement (it received such rights in 1957) there are also several characteristic cottages dating back to the 19th century painted in national blue colors.
