Poznan - capital of Greater Poland, fifth most populous city in Poland (about 530,000 inhabitants).
The city is an important center for trade, business, this city is considered a place where people live prosperously, and unemployment rates are the lowest in Poland. Such low rates of unemployment can boast only Warsaw and Sopot. The city's GDP is on the fifth place in Poland, after Warsaw, Krakow, the Silesia region and the Tri-City. Poznań is an important tourist and business center. It is estimated that almost 40% of tourist visits are for business purposes, no wonder, because the city is the site of the famous Poznań International Fair, it is also the place of numerous conferences.
There are many places in Poznań worth seeing, certainly one of them is Ostrów Tumski. This charming place in Poznan, with its dominant cathedral and church of the Blessed Virgin Mary, cobbled streets is a place for walks. It used to be a very important place, because it is here that the Baptism of Poland took place, and in the cathedral are buried the rulers of Poland from the Piast Dynasty.
In Poznan it is worth taking a walk around the Old Market Square. In its center you can admire the Town Hall - a beautiful building from the Renaissance era, considered one of the most beautiful Renaissance buildings in Poland. It is here at noon that you can admire the famous Poznań Goats, i.e. the figures barking their heads off. On the south side of the town hall are picturesque houses called Builders' Houses. This rare example of a medieval market building forever inscribed in the city skyline. The houses are of different heights, extremely colorful, at their back is Kurzanoga Street - the shortest street in Poznan.
Another attraction worth recommending is the fort, built by the Prussian army, which is part of the Fortress of Poznan. Since 2011, the place is open to the public, we can visit the powder magazine, observation deck and other places of the fort.
Another place is the Imperial Castle, built in 1905-1910 as a symbol of German rule. After World War I the Poznan University Department of Mathematics was based here, graduates of this department broke the code of the famous German cipher machine Enigma.
When in Poznan we recommend visiting the Poznan Parish Church - a magnificent religious building, one of the prettiest in Poland. There are many more attractions in Poznan, you have to see for yourself.
