The town lies on the river Słupia, on the Słupsk Plain, which is a mesoregion of Pobrzeże Koszalińskie (Koszalin Coast). is 18 km from the sea, which is certainly an advantage. Slupsk was the seat of the Slupsk Voivodeship until 1998.
The city boasts a large number of monuments and attractions. Among them are: the Gothic gates, one of the oldest mills in Poland, the museum in the Pomeranian Dukes' Castle or the largest collection of Witkacy's works of art in Poland.
The location of the city's attractions and its size allow you to explore Slupsk on foot. You can start your tour at the Middle Pomerania Museum, which consists of two (separately ticketed) establishments: a historical museum in the Pomeranian Dukes' Castle and an ethnographic exhibition in the Castle Mill, an art gallery with works by Stanislaw Ignacy Witkiewicz in the restored White Spitzer.
The city's biggest attraction, the Castle of the Pomeranian Dukes, was built in 1507 in the Gothic style. In 1580-1587 it was rebuilt as a two-storey building in Renaissance style, with large windows and an ornamental tower. It is located in the vicinity of the Slupia River. There is a castle mill nearby. In the 16th and 17th centuries, the castle was a residence of Pomeranian dukes from the Gryfit dynasty. After World War II the castle was renovated, including reconstruction of the tower head. Currently, the castle is the seat of the Museum of Central Pomerania in Slupsk. In the exhibition rooms you can see objects related to the history of Pomerania and Griffin dynasty and memorabilia related to the history of Slupsk. Visiting the castle in the summer season, we can climb the castle tower, from the top of which there is a view of the surrounding area. Until 2017, the castle also displayed the world's largest collection of works by Stanisław Ignacy Witkiewicz - Witkacy.
Following this, you can take a guided tour of the town hall. During the tour you enter the observation deck, which offers a view of the city and the surrounding area.
