Welcome to Strzegom by bus!
Strzegom is a town in Lower Silesia Province, located by the Strzegomka River. The name derives from the word "strzec" or from the word "shear", as the name of a place to cut heads. It is now called the Granite Heart of Poland.
The town's greatest development occurred in the 19th century. Mainly stone industry started to develop. The good fortune was interrupted by World Wars I and II, but the city quickly recovered. Today, many buildings in Europe and the world are made of Strzegom's granite.
Overlooking the town is the Basilica of St. Peter and Paul, one of the largest and most beautiful in Lower Silesia. Another attraction is the medieval Market Square with a Market Tower, preserved from the second half of the 14th century. The town's defensive walls from the mid-14th century and the Beak Tower, located in the Strzegom Planty, are also historical landmarks.
Strzegom is surrounded by the Strzegom foothills, where the Cross Mountain is located. It is a great vantage point overlooking the town and the surrounding area. Many tourists are also attracted by the annual Folklore Festival or the Granite Festival, where many stone sculptures can be seen in the open air.
