Unna is a district town in Germany, part of the state of North Rhine-Westphalia, in the Arnsberg district. The town was first mentioned in 1032 and received its municipal rights in 1288.
While here in the Nikolai district, the half-timbered buildings are worth seeing. Also notable is the 14th-century Gothic Evangelical church, whose spire was rebuilt in 1863 according to plans by Cologne Cathedral's chief architect Ernst Friedrich Zwirner.
The local Center for International Light Art, which is a museum of light art, is the only one of its kind in the world - be sure to take a look, because you won't get such an opportunity anywhere else.
An interesting building in Unna is also Cappenberg Castle, a former monastery. From its vantage point, you can admire the Ruhr Area. On the castle grounds there is also a water tower from 1899, restored in 1992 and listed as a monument.
