Walcz is a not very large city (less than 25,000 inhabitants) located in the West Pomeranian province, specifically in its southeastern part. The distance separating Walcz from the capital of its administrative region - Szczecin - is as much as 145 km. Wałcz residents are definitely closer to towns in the Greater Poland province - Piła, Chodzież or Trzcianka. The city of provincial rank, to which it is the closest from here, is Bydgoszcz, the capital of the Kuyavian-Pomeranian Voivodeship.
While we are on the subject of geography, it is worth adding that Walcz is the capital of the Walcz Lakeland, which has a bearing on the landscape and the state of the surrounding flora and fauna. The town itself is home to two not inconsiderable lakes: Zamkowe and Radun. The region is famous for its clean air, boundless forests and numerous monuments and nature reserves, making Walcz and its environs a paradise for lovers of active recreation. Here you can successfully practice fishing, walking, Nordic walking, water sports, cycling or canoeing. If we add good sports infrastructure facilities (indoor swimming pool, rope park, gyms, sports halls), the most famous representative of which is the Olympic Preparation Center, we have a picture of a resort that adheres to the principle: In a healthy body a healthy spirit! In other words, it is a perfect address for people who want to take a breath of fresh air and take care of their body and mind.
However, not only recreation Walcz stands for! For this town has an impressive history, dating back to the Middle Ages. The first mention of a settlement in Walcz Land is dated to the beginning of the 12th century. This town was destroyed by the armies of Boleslaw the Wrymouth. The foundation charter of today's Wallachia was issued in 1303, and the central place of the stronghold became a castle built on Castle Lake. From the 14th to the 18th century, several fires swept through the city, which greatly affected the condition of the buildings. Among Walcz's most important monuments, which should not escape the attention of visitors, it is worth mentioning: a fragment of the German defensive fortifications that were part of the Pomeranian Wall, the Neo-Renaissance Town Hall of 1890, the Neo-Gothic Church of St. Nicholas of 1865, the Neo-Gothic building of the Main Post Office of 1895, the Neo-Gothic building whose construction was completed in 1905 (it now houses a school), and the Orthodox Church of St. Nicholas. Holy Trinity. Also awaiting tourists are the Wallachia Land Museum, and lovers of military climates must take a look at the Museum of the Pomeranian Bulwark and the open-air fortification fortification group "Brickworks".
There are several notable eateries waiting for hungry and thirsty tourists. At the top of this list are: pizzeria Si Walcz, bistro Porannik, Zakątek smaku, pierogarnia Na Ryneczku, bar Tam Tam, Wałecka restaurant, Tawerna Pod Wieżą, Betina Cafe and Fresh Gelato Ray's cafe' Fresh Ice Cream Factory. The city also has an accommodation base consisting of hotels, motels and private agritourism lodgings.
Non-motorized tourists will probably start their tour of the city from the bus station. From this place you can easily get to the biggest attractions of this town and the local train station. Buses and coaches connecting Walcz Lakeland with other regions of Poland and Europe depart from the Walcz PKS bus stop.
