Wloclawek is a town in central Poland, located on the Vistula River. It is one of the oldest cities in Poland and also the historical capital of Kujawy. Statistics show that Wloclawek is inhabited by a little over 100 thousand people. The city can boast of centuries of history, which is best proved by a walk around the center. It is also worth remembering that industry played an important role in shaping the current character of the town. Companies operating in chemical, food, metal, construction and power industries are thriving in Wloclawek.
What can the city boast about? There are as many as five museums in the city center, where you can see, among others, a 1984 exhibition of faience, i.e. ceramics from the local factory Wloclawek Fajansu. The local tradition is hand-painted ceramic dishes, so called "Wloclawki". Due to economic changes in the 90s of the 20th century the factory stopped producing decorated dishes, but 12 years later it returned to the tradition and now it is the town's showpiece.
For strollers a treat can be the oldest Henryk Sienkiewicz town park in Poland. Here you can take a rest by a small waterfall or the estuary of the Zglowiączka River to the Vistula. Nearby stands the Cathedral Basilica of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary. In one of its chapels stands a silver Eucharistic Throne, characterised by Baroque splendour that has attracted the eye since 1744.
