Ancona (Ancona in Italian) is a city in central Italy and the capital of the province of Ancona and the region of Marche. It is situated cascading in the hills above the Adriatic Sea. It is a port city with numerous trasport ships and passenger ferries. The name Ancona comes from the Greek ankon, meaning elbow. It has to do with the city's location on a promontory with a distinctive appearance.
