GIRONA

Girona is located in the northeast of Spain, at the foot of the Catalan Mountains, about 33 kilometers west of the Mediterranean coast. It is located in Catalonia, 80 kilometers from its capital, Barcelona, and is a small, atmospheric city full of historic architecture.

What interesting things does Girona offer for visitors? It is best to start your sightseeing from the old town, surrounded by walls that still remember Roman times. The focal point there is the Cathedral of the Blessed Virgin Mary, distinguished by its monumental staircase and Baroque façade, whose interiors represent the Gothic-Romanesque style. The temple boasts the widest nave in the world in terms of Gothic architecture. In addition, the Jewish quarter, El Call, the Arab baths or the Basilica of Sant Feliu, with its historically valuable tombstones and distinctive truncated tower, are also noteworthy.

There are seven museums in Gron. Especially worth a visit is the Archaeological Museum, founded in 1846, with exhibits dating back to the Paleolithic period and later objects excavated in various locations throughout the province. Also noteworthy is the Cathedral's Museum-Temple with an exhibition of sacred art, where the most valuable object is the Tapestry of Creation from 1100.

Commuting to Girona

You can fly into Girona, as the city has its own airport - Girona-Costa Brava. Sagales buses run from the airport. A good option for getting to this Catalan city is also by bus. It will be best to get around Grono on foot, as the distances are not too long and the historic part of the city can be visited in a day.

OLAWA

Olawawa is a city in Lower Silesia province, in the Wroclaw agglomeration. The town, located on the Oława (known as the Oławka) and Odra rivers, and currently inhabited by about 33,000 people, traces its history back to the 12th century and the Middle Ages.

The most important attraction in the city is the Piast Castle in Olawa, also known as Luisa's Palace. It was erected on the site of Prince Louis I's former Gothic hunting lodge from the late 14th century and has been rebuilt many times over the years. Olawa's town hall dates from the first half of the 19th century. On its Baroque tower, a remnant from the previous town hall, is a 17th-century figural-astronomical clock with moving figures. Inside is the worthwhile Museum Chamber of Olawa Land, a small regional museum that collects antiquities, coins and postcards from Olawa and the surrounding area, as well as a collection of militaria or exhibitions of sculptures and ceramics by local artists. Several beautiful Baroque townhouses can also be seen in the area.

It is worth taking a walk in the city park located in the southern part of Olawa along the Olawka River. Also nearby is an old Jewish cemetery with dozens of preserved matzevot. Also awaiting visitors to the city is the Sanctuary of the Blessed Virgin Mary Mother of Consolation, the oldest church in Olawa with the remains of a Gothic chancel from around 1300 and several valuable monuments of sacred art.

Access to Olawa

The city lies 27 kilometers southeast of Wroclaw. Oława is crossed by national road 94 and provincial roads: 396 and 455. The city has a railroad station and an Oława PKS station. The railroad connection between Wroclaw and Olawa was established as early as 1842 and is the oldest in Poland. Trains to Olawa stop at the railroad station on Szopena Street, adjacent to the city park. The Oława PKS bus station is located at 3 Maja Street and serves both intercity and international connections.
