Above the city center rises the Royal Palace, the official seat of the Norwegian monarchy. Every day at 1:30 pm, a changing of the guard takes place in front of the palace's main entrance. In addition, the medieval Akershus Fortress, once successfully defending enemies' access to the city, is worth a visit.
