Eindhoven - the center of the electronics industry.

Eindhoven is a city in the southern Netherlands located on the Dommel River and home to more than 225,000 people. It is the fifth largest city in the country and a major industrial center specializing in the electronics and automotive industries. Its name comes from the words "eind" and "hoeve" meaning the end of the earth or the end of the world. The city may not be a very popular tourist destination, but it offers many attractions - especially interesting museums and exhibitions are worth seeing there.

The history of Eindhoven dates back to the 13th century. It received city rights in 1232. Because of the wars and fires that consumed the city over the centuries, not too many monuments have been preserved there. However, there is nevertheless something to see and do there. St. Catharinakerk

This neo-Gothic church located in the center of Eindhoven is the city's oldest surviving monument. It dates from 1867, although there was originally a church on the site as early as the 13th century. Its 73-meter high towers - those of David and Mary - tower over the city. Inside, meanwhile, it is worth noting the beautiful stained-glass windows and the impressive organ.

Van Abbemuseum

This contemporary art museum is already distinguished from the outside by its modern building. There you will find more than 2,700 works of art, including numerous sculptures and art installations. Among the exhibits you will find works by Pablo Picasso, Marc Chagall or El Lissitzky.

DAF Museum

Eindhoven has been home to DAF, one of Europe's largest truck manufacturers, since 1928. Fans of automobiles, especially trucks, are sure to find themselves at the DAF Museum. Here you can see prototype cars, replicas of workshops, as well as numerous truck models and military or rescue vehicles.

PSV Museum

This is a museum located at the PSV Eindhoven team stadium collecting memorabilia related to the club, its history, especially numerous photos and trophies.

Philips Museum

This museum collects Phillips products, but also introduces visitors to the history of the light bulb and the corporation's many achievements in the fields of music, communications or health. It was in Eindhoven in 1891 that Gerard and Frederik Philips established their first light bulb factory and took charge of lighting the entire city. At the museum it is worth taking part, among other things, in an interactive game called Mission Eureka abounding with many quizzes and puzzles.

PreHistorisch Dorp

This is an open-air museum where you can see how people lived in the area during the Iron Age, Roman times and the early Middle Ages. This prehistoric village hosts many activities of interest to both young and old - including javelin-throwing demonstrations, workshops in cooking, metalwork and the art of fire-making.

The museum is also home to a variety of activities of interest to young and old alike.

Ton Smits House

Ton Smits was a Dutch cartoonist and caricaturist. He became famous for drawing caricatures of Nazis during World War II. Visitors can learn about his biography, see the studio where he worked and learn about a significant portion of his paintings and drawings.
