Gdynia is the most populous city in Poland without the rank of provincial capital, which in the Pomeranian province is held by Gdansk. Both cities, together with Sopot, make up the Tricity, the largest agglomeration in northern Poland. Gdynia alone is home to more than 240,000 people. Due to its coastal location, Gdynia is often visited by tourists who are eager to drop by the Tricity during their Baltic Sea vacations. There are also those who choose to spend their entire vacation here, occasionally organizing trips to the beach. Gdynia has an impressive tourist offer, which is certainly enough material for an entire vacation.
Gdynia is a relatively young city (it received city rights in 1926), especially against the backdrop of the centuries-old history of Gdansk. However, the city's intensive, industrial-driven growth and the wise policies of local authorities have made Gdynia today a thriving urban center friendly to residents and tourists. Let's check out what the city has to offer the latter.
At the top of the long list of recommendable sites is the Gdynia Aquarium, located at the end of the South Pier. It's quite a treat for big and small visitors wishing to better explore the mysteries of the underwater world. The aquarium occupies three floors. It houses 68 aquariums, home to nearly 2,000 animals. The list of attractions also includes a walk along the F. Nowowiejski Seaside Boulevard. The 1.5 km long promenade begins at one of the city's symbols - the sculpture of the Gdynia Fish. Staying in a maritime mood, it is also worth visiting Kościuszko Square, considered the tourist center of Gdynia, as well as entering two famous ship-museums: ORP Błyskawica and Dar Pomorza. For those who still can't get enough of the sound of waves and the squawking of seagulls, we recommend a visit to the pier in Orlowo. You can also admire the cliffs in this beautiful district. Gdynia also offers tourists attractions unrelated to the sea. We are talking primarily about museums: Emigration, City of Gdynia, Motorization and Żeromski's House. For those who like to act rather than just admire, however, the EXPERYMENT Science Center awaits. Gdynia also boasts a trail of modernist buildings and murals scattered in various parts of the city.
As well as an attractive coastal location and a wide range of diverse tourist attractions, good accommodation and catering facilities must go hand in hand. In Gdynia we can stay overnight in hotels, hostels, private lodgings or camping grounds. Food and beverage establishments also offer great opportunities. Bars, cafes and restaurants are open to different clientele in Gdynia. The largest selection of dishes from various culinary traditions can be found in the city center and the most touristic areas. We can look for tasty recommendations at the tourist information (24 10 Lutego St., 30 Swietojanska St.) or on the website of the Culinary Trail of the Gdynia Center.
A great advantage of the city is also its convenient accessibility. Those wishing to discover the attractions of this part of the Tricity have the Gdynia PKS station, where buses connecting Gdynia with various cities in the country and abroad stop. The Gdynia PKS bus stop is located not far from the railroad station, which gives unlimited possibilities in the subject of organizing travel. From here you can easily get to the city center or change means of transportation and reach other important points on the coast.
