Lozanne is a city of more than 130,000 people and the fifth largest in Switzerland, and the capital of the canton of Vaud in the west of the country. It is located on Lake Geneva, about 60 kilometers from Geneva, in the French-speaking part of Switzerland. The name "Lausanne" comes from its location on steep mountain slopes.
It's origins date back to the 2nd century BC, when the area was inhabited by the Celts. Later Lausanne developed thanks to the Romans. Even then it had great importance as a point on the trade route from Italy to Gaul, and later as a sizable port and a large city that was the seat of a bishopric.
Today Lausanne is one of the most popular tourist cities in Switzerland. No wonder - it lies on the beautiful Lake Geneva, surrounded by the Alps, which provides numerous opportunities for recreation. In addition, there are many museums, several world-class monuments and beautiful buildings. It is worth knowing that Lausanne is the only city in the country with a metro. Its surroundings, in turn, are famous for the production of fine wine - it is surrounded by many vineyards, and the mild climate provides a sunny aura for much of the year.

The characteristic Gothic temple dates back to the 12th century. It has been continually rebuilt and renovated over the centuries. Today it is one of the most important medieval buildings in all of Switzerland. Inside, note the impressive organ of as many as 700 pipes and the beautiful stained glass windows.
This castle dates back to the 15th century. It used to be the seat of bishops, and since 1803 the authorities of the canton of Vaud have been in office there.
Aquatis is Europe's largest freshwater aquarium. A total of 46 aquariums inhabited by as many as 10,000 species of fish and numerous amphibians and reptiles can be found there. Aquatis is worth visiting especially with children, as the place abounds in multimedia exhibitions that allow you to experiment and learn many interesting facts about nature in an attractive way.
