Lodz is a metropolis located in central Poland and the capital of Lodz Voivodeship. It is a city of contrasts - idolized by some, visited reluctantly by others. It's best to form an opinion about it personally, checking what Lodz tourist attractions it has to offer its visitors. And there is plenty to choose from!
Walking around the city, it is easy to find post-industrial references - for Lodz grew up on industry, in particular the textile industry was well developed here. Recent decades have seen a wide-ranging transformation, which has strongly changed the face of this locality. Modern Lodz is an important academic, business and cultural center. The city is also famous for its beautiful murals.
One of the city's landmarks is ul. Piotrkowska - the longest continuous shopping street in the Old Continent. Piotrkowska Street is home to many cafes, restaurants and pubs, where you can always hear the bustle. However, this place is also known for other sights, for which a stroll along Piotrkowska Street is a mandatory point in the program of any trip visiting this city. On Piotrkowska Street, the following attractions are worth noting above all: Passage of Roses, Scheibler's tenement house with its flagpole and beautifully decorated facade, Kohn's tenement house, Avenue of the Stars with plaques commemorating iconic Polish actors, the house of the publisher of the first newspaper in the city and Juliusz Heinzl's palace. It also houses a trendy space for creative people (or people looking for hipster pubs), namely Off Piotrkowska, as well as two important museum facilities: The Central Museum of Textiles and the Skansen Łódzkiej Architektury Drewnianej. A discussion of the most famous street in Lodz would not be complete without mentioning Liberty Square. The octagonal square begins Piotrkowska Street, and everything that happens in the square takes place under the watchful eye of T. Kosciuszko, who is peering from the monument. Wolności Square is also home to the classicist town hall of 1827, the Pentecostal Church, the Archaeological and Ethnographic Museum, the Museum of Pharmacy and the Museum of the Canal "inner tube".
Piotrkowska is a reference point for every tourist, but it is certainly not the only attraction of Lodz. In addition to the main avenue, several other places are worth a look. They certainly include: Poznański's Palace, which now houses the Museum of the City of Łódź, the Manufaktura cultural, entertainment and shopping center integrated into the buildings of a former factory, St. Joseph's Church, two cemeteries - the Old and Jewish, the Museum of Art, the Museum of Cinematography and Herbst Palace. Those who prefer sightseeing in harmony with nature in Lodz will find Pilsudski Park, Lagiewnicki Forest and Ruda Popioły forest complex.
