Brzeg is a small historic city of over 35,000 people in the Opole Province. It lies on the Oder River, half an hour from Wroclaw. It is called the city of the Silesian Piasts, as it was here that the Silesian Piasts - the dukes of Legnica and Brest - held office from the 14th to the 17th century.

One of the more picturesque sights and a good place for a stroll is the covered staircase route from Place de La Palud up to in front of the main entrance to Lausanne Cathedral. The square itself is where most of the old town's streets converge. It is home to the city's oldest fountain and an antique clock that presents scenes from local history every hour.
