Ancona (Ancona in Italian) is a city in central Italy and the capital of the province of Ancona and the region of Marche. It is situated cascading in the hills above the Adriatic Sea. It has to do with the city's location on a promontory with a distinctive appearance. In ancient times, Ancona lay on the route of one of the important Roman roads, the via Flaminia, connecting Rome with today's Rimini.
